Can you believe its been two years since our release of 'Mooklord'? Sheese! I thought I'd do a little write up on it if anyone is interested. We started writing this EP a little after our 2019 release "Vices" with the intention of musically moving forward and always trying to out-do the last thing. I remember John coming to me saying something along the lines of "It'd be cool to name a song 'Bela Lugosi'". Actually, I think that night we wrote the first verse and chorus. It's one of the only few times I personally been directly inspired from an actor to write a song. We like spooky stuff, man.
The title track "Mooklord" is about narcissism, baby. Maybe it's something we can all relate to. You like yourself, confidence is key! But, do you like yourself too much? Where do you draw the line? I'll you figure that one out. The choral/orchestral outro is a little tip of the hat to Bohemian Rhapsody. Our drummer Rob wanted to go "full Queen" and so we did. Shoutout to William Stromberg for providing REAL strings for that outro.
And finally we have "Broken Bottles"- our little, mood swinging ballad. Well, it's not really a ballad but I like to call it that for fun. Easily one of our most "riffed" out songs to date. Lyrically, it was inspired by this idea that once you receive someone's villain label, you are now and forever the villain. "I'm just the Devil no matter what you say".
